Biographies

Lohana Berkins is the General Coordinator of the Asociación de Lucha por la Identidad Travesti Transexual (ALITT) in Buenos Aires, Argentina, an advocate for Transvestite/ Transexual rights. "In a World of Capitalist Worms, We Need the Courage to be Butterflies."

Lorena Cañequeo is a Mapuche activist and researcher. She studies Social Communications at the Universidad del Comahue, Argentina. Coordina el MapUrbe'zine, fanzine edited by the Mapurbe Communication Workgroups, and she performs in the Mapuche Theater Project.

María Galindo is a co-founder of "Mujeres Creando," an anarchist-feminist collective in Bolivia that performs creative actions on the streets, produces videos, has its own newspaper and publishes books of poetry, feminist theory and sexuality, among other things.

Mariam Gomes belongs to the Cape-Verdian community, an African-descended community which has been in Argentina for over a hundred years. She takes part in different organizations for the defense and diffusion of African cultural values and is the Vice President of the Cape Verde Society in Argentina.

Agnes Lugo-Ortiz is Associate Professor and Director of Graduate Studies in Spanish at the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures at the University of Chicago, where she also coordinates the "Project Towards a New Americas Studies."
