Shinji Hirai is a doctoral candidate in Anthropology at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana - Unidad Iztapalapa, México. Since 2000 he has done ethnographic research in particular locations in the Mexican state of Jaliso and southern California. Hirai focuses on the role Mexican migrant nostalgia plays in the construction of transnational connections and the transformation of the local economy, cultural practices and the place of origin.
