Gail Tremblay was born in Buffalo, New York. Tremblay earned her B.A. in Drama from the University of New Hampshire and an M.F.A in Creative Writing from the University of Oregon. Tremblay has received many awards for her poetry. She is also known for her work as a visual artist. All of her work, written and visual, draws upon the traditional culture of her heritage. Tremblay has been on the faculty of Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington since 1981.  She is also the author of several books including Close to Home, and Night gives women the word.  Currently one of her film baskets is on display at the new National Museum of the American Indian in DC.
